The BRR Knowledge Centre, established in June 2008, aims to collect and disseminate information regarding the rehabilitation and reconstruction programme in Aceh and Nias (2005-09).

The information collected includes documents and other media types sourced from BRR and participating organisations.

Said Faisal, born in Banda Aceh in 1969, is a distinguished economist who has worked for various development agencies and economic development projects. He was appointed Deputy of the Department of Education and Health for the Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Agency (BRR) for Aceh and Nias.Said currently works at the International Finance Corporation (IFC) of the World Bank as Project Manager for Access to Finance in PENSA - the Program for Eastern Indonesia Small and Medium Enterprise Assistance. He is responsible for managing access to finance for rural banks, microfinance institutions, women entrepreneurs; including managing collateral issues and leasing.

Said also has a long track record as a mediator. Between 1999 and 2003, he was Senior Manager, Mediator and Facilitator for the Jakarta Initiative Task Force (JITF), a World Bank private sector development project to assist the Indonesian government in accelerating corporate restructuring to resume growth in the private sector after the country was hit by economic crisis in 1997-1998.




During his term with JITF, Said facilitated corporate restructuring deals between Indonesian private companies, international representatives of financial institutions, development agencies, and Indonesian government representatives. He has also assisted debtors and creditors in initiating business dispute resolution.

Towards the end of JITF’s mandate in Indonesia in 2003, he became Consultant and Trainer for the Indonesian Mediation Center, where he developed operating systems and manuals for the institution, and provided training for mediators, judges and the public on dispute resolution processes.

As he was born in Aceh, Said is particularly concerned about community development in the province. He was project leader for Syiah Kuala University’s rural field working service in 1994, where he led 107 students in conducting studies, designing programs, obtaining funding and implementing residential village programs. During his term as Senate for Syiah Kuala University’s Faculty of Economics, he was in charge of running the student cooperative and led fundraising programs for natural disaster relief.

Said Faisal has a Master’s of Science in Insurance from the University of Hartford, Connecticut, USA, and a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Syiah Kuala University, Banda Aceh.
